Gettysburg Address Remembrance Day Ceremony
November 16, 2019 @ 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Join the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War as we honor the reading of the Gettysburg Address that happened on the Gettysburg battlefield on November 19, 1863. The ceremony will feature a reading of the Address, speakers from the SUVCW, DUVCW 1861-1865, and a keynote speaker who’s ancestor was a guard at the actual ceremony in 1863.
Annually, there is a Remembrance Day ceremony celebrated in Springfield, Illinois where Lincoln is buried at Oakridge Cemetery. Lincoln Nebraska is the largest city in the United States named after the 16th President Abraham Lincoln and we have also held a Gettysburg Address ceremony in his honor. On the grounds of the Nebraska State Capitol is “The Gettysburg Lincoln”, a bronze statue of Abraham Lincoln, sculpted by Daniel Chester French which was unveiled in 1912. The text of the Gettysburg Address is inscribed on the granite stele behind the statue.
The capitol building opens at 10 AM.
